Drip Irrigation Applications
Any situation requiring regular watering can benefit from drip irrigation. However, most people use drippers in three main areas:
In The Garden
Using drip tape in the garden is our preferred application of drip irrigation. After we've tilled the soil we lay drip tape down to mark where the rows are going to be. By letting the drippers run for a few minutes before planting we see exactly where the plants need to go and ensure even spacing.
On The Lawn
For those who want a perfectly watered lawn without worrying about sprinklers, you can consider a subsurface drip system. Installing subsurface drip lines should be done before grass is planted or sod is laid since emitter lines are placed every 12"-18", from border to border. These systems can be hooked up to automatic timing systems to make watering as easy as turning a few dials.
For The Flowers
Whether you're watering flower beds, pots or hanging baskets, drip irrigation can make your life a little bit easier. Flower beds can utilize either drip tape (like the garden) or emitters. Emitters are connected to a central line via smaller tubing, allowing for flexibility in placement. The same system can be used for pots and hanging baskets, even using multiple emitters for water-intensive containers to ensure even watering.
